About the event

Are you a member of the LGBTQ+ community and are a person of faith? Have you ever felt rejected by the church, or are seeking to reconcile your Christianity with who you are? Join us as we listen to the past and current experiences, challenges, and triumphs of LGBTQ+ pastors in our area! These clergy members come from different backgrounds and time periods in the ministry, but share a common identity: being LGBTQ+ in the church.

Free lunch will be provided. Please RSVP above to reserve your spot and for our food count! Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

Panelists

Rev. Dr. Lisa C. Farrell
Pastor, Penn Wynne Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Dr. Lisa C. Farrell was born and raised on the Main Line. She attended Franklin and Marshall College and won an Andrew Mutch Scholarship to attend the University of Edinburgh in her junior year to d a joint BA/MDiv degree. Upon moving back to the states, she came under the care of the Philadelphia Presbytery, completed additional requirements for the PC(USA), and worked part-time at a church in Northeast Philadelphia. She was installed as the Pastor of Penn Wynne Presbyterian Church in 1995. In 2013, she earned a Master's in Sacred Theology and a Doctor of Ministry from the Lutheran Seminary of Philadelphia. Lisa is married to her wife, Vicki Darring. They live in Drexel Hill with their dogs, Fiona and Sabrina, and cat, Phil.

Rev. Kevin L. Porter
Stated Clerk, Presbytery of Philadelphia

Rev. Kevin L. Porter is a native of Philadelphia. He was introduced and nurtured in Fatih through the Sunday School of the Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church, where he was confirmed and encouraged to pursue higher education. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has a strong commitment to building community in the midst of diversity, a great love for Philadelphia, and a deep appreciation for the Presbyterian Church (USA). He joined the staff as the Stated Clerk of the Presbytery in 2012 while also being the Director of Adult Education and Community Life at the First Presbyterian Church in Germantown. He now serves the Presbytery full-time. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys playing guitar in a park or beach with his partner, Ron.

Rev. Leigh DeVries
Associate Pastor for Youth & their Families, Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church

Rev. Leigh DeVries was born and raised in Nashville, TN to a long line of pastors. She studies Religion at Rhodes College and got her Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Education from Princeton Theological Seminary. After Seminary, Leigh and her partner moved to the Pacific Northwest, but returned to the east coast shortly thereafter to become the Associate Pastor for Youth and their Families and Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, where she has worked since 2019. Leigh is passionate about working with youth and young people and about inclusive language.

Rev. David Norse-Thomas
Associate Pastor for Christian Formation, Swarthmore Presbyterian Church

Rev. David grew up on the west coast, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and completed his Master of Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served at Broad Street Ministry in Center City Philadelphia, working with people experiencing poverty and ministering to young adults, and most recently as Pastor of a Presbyterian church in Towson, Maryland. While at Broad Street, David also earned a Master's degree in Couples and Family Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University. David is married to Eric Thomas. Having met and married at Broad Street Ministry in 2016, they formed deep roots in Philadelphia and are thrilled to be back in this area!
